This song describes, in a way, the most unnerving of the night terrors.
I am in total darkness, feeling my way along the walls of a great stone cavern. I cannot see my own hands.
As time passes, I can feel myself moving deeper under the earth...but my surroundings are growingly softly brighter.
The dark stone of the walls are dully phosphorescent, and cast a faint blue light into a great underground hall of stone. There, in the centre, is a great pink beast. He is fumbling around in the comparative light...clearly lost. He has no eyes.
I do not feel scared of him; he is my friend. I go to him, take his hand, and promise to lead him out of the darkness.
We wander through the endless tunnels, but the light is growing dimmer and the air grows closer.
I suddenly trip and lose my grip on my friends hand. I hear a sharp intake of breath, almost violent...
When I stand, my friend is gone. He has abandoned me, and I am alone, deeper in the earth than I have ever been.
Lost, in the dark.
lyrics
Can you see me by this dull light
My pulse is quick and my chest grows tight
I know that you’ll find me
Despite the fact, you cannot see.
Hold my hand and I’ll take you home
Best be scared by each others side than
Walk separate ways…on our own.
Step by step we will make our way
Stay close by me and I will try to navigate
Hold my hand, I’ll find the way
We’ll leave the night behind….and find the day.
The walls glow brightly as we pass by
Shards of stone glint brightly like
a creatures eyes in the night
The light grows dim and we’ve lost our track
The way we came is in shadows now
So we can’t turn…back
I trip and fall and I loose your hand
It’s much too dark and I can’t seem to find
You…when I can stand
You’ve left me here in the cold and black
My friend is lost and he won’t come back
I drop too my knees, put my head in my hands…
My friend has left me, I don’t understand.
You held my hand….I lost the way
You left me behind…
